College Football is nearing its season opener, with games set to kick later this month.
The several programs across the Front Range may be led by the Air Force Falcons this year, who received four votes in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25. No other program in the region secured writers’ votes.
Mountain West media members predict Air Force will finish fourth in the conference and second in the Mountain Division this coming season. Colorado State is picked fourth in the Mountain Division, Wyoming slated for fifth and New Mexico at sixth.
Oddsmakers predict Air Force to win 8.5 games, followed by Colorado State (5.5,) Wyoming (5,) New Mexico (3) and Colorado (3.)
Air Force will actually play all these teams this coming season, with the Buffaloes and Cowboys coming in Week 2 and Week 3, then back-to-back with New Mexico and Colorado State in November.
Wyoming is the only school with a week zero game, as they’ll start at Illinois on Aug. 27. The rest of the pack either starts Sept. 2 or Sept. 3
Alabama got the No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press preseason college football poll for the second straight season. Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson and Notre Dame rounded out the top 5.
Utah was the highest-rated Pac-12 team, starting this season at No. 7. Fresno State got the most votes from a Mountain West school in the poll but didn’t make the Top 25.
