Report: Tight end Tim Tebow, Jags working on 1-year deal

May 10, 2021, 2:44 PM

The Tim Tebow comeback train chugs along, with its next stop the Jacksonville Jaguars.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday afternoon that the Jaguars intend to sign Tebow — who is converting from quarterback to tight end — to a one-year deal.

“Nothing done yet. But he’ll have a chance to make the team to reunite with his mentor and college head coach Urban Meyer,” Rapoport tweeted.

Late last month, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Tebow had reached out to Jacksonville about a tryout at the tight end position, “a move many believe would have extended his NFL career had he made the transition earlier.”

Toward the end of Tebow’s first NFL stint, teams had discussed utilizing him as a tight end, with the New York Post reporting several teams reached out to the New York Jets in April 2013 about a trade if he was open to moving positions.

However, trade talks fizzled with doubt Tebow would make the transition to tight end, and he never played another regular season down in the NFL despite catching on with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

The 25th pick of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, Tebow made 16 starts in 35 games in his NFL career, compiling a record of 8-6.

He completed 173 of his 361 career passing attempts, a 47.9 percent clip, while throwing for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Tebow also rushed for 989 career yards and 12 touchdowns.
