Is coaching the Browns more desirable than the Broncos right now?

“Stokley and Zach” articulated a position on Wednesday that might make some in Broncos Country want to “go take a shower.”

The Cleveland Browns is a more desirable destination for prospective NFL head coaches than the Denver Broncos.

“This is what folks don’t want to hear: The Cleveland Browns will be a more desired job than the Denver Broncos,” said “Stokley and Zach” co-host Zach Bye.

Said Bye’s co-host, Brandon Stokley: “That job is a lot more attractive for a coach looking for a job than the Broncos job right now. That’s just the way it is.”

Why Cleveland is a more desirable destination, Stokley said, comes down to one name: Baker Mayfield.

“They have a quarterback that they are high on. They should be. He has looked the part,” Stokley said. “He has played really good football this year for a young quarterback.”

Stokley called the Browns, who combined for one win in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, a “totally different team.”

“They’ve got a lot of young football players and they’ve got the quarterback position figured out. When you have the quarterback position figured out, that is your foundation,” Stokley said.

Having that quarterback foundation set, Stokley said, gives teams a chance at a Super Bowl when otherwise they might, at the most, be a playoff-caliber team.

“And even if they’re not Super Bowl ready right now, which they aren’t, the foundation is the first thing that goes in,” Bye said. “And what happens when the foundation is in, what happens next? You build off it and you build up.”

Browns general manager John Dorsey, Bye said, has checked off the box for a foundational quarterback and looks like he’ll have an easier time checking off the box for Cleveland’s new head coach.

“I don’t know if Baker Mayfield’s going to be a great quarterback or not, but right now he’s trending in the right direction. And as a coach, you want to hitch your saddle to a great quarterback,” Stokley said.
