Should the Broncos be concerned with new Bengals starting QB Driskel?

While facing off against a young quarterback making his first NFL start might be an appealing prospect to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Cincinnati Bengals signal caller Jeff Driskel has some 104.3 The Fan hosts concerned.
“This is no slappy. This is no ‘young quarterback,’ ‘it’s going to be an easy, cake win’ for the Broncos,” Lammey said. “It’s going to be a win in my opinion, but this Jeff Driskel kid is an intriguing prospect.”
“Stokley and Zach” host Zach Bye said Wednesday that he “almost” wishes Andy Dalton was playing against the Broncos on Sunday. And his co-host, Brandon Stokley, said that when the news that Driskel would be filling in for Dalton came out, he said he didn’t know if it was a good thing.
“You’ve got a running quarterback, you’ve got a good running attack, and you don’t have film on this guy, not a lot,” Stokley said, adding, “… You just don’t know what they’re going to try to do.”
On Wednesday, Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. said the team expects to see “more RPOs” — run-pass options — with Driskel’s mobile abilities.
“I think seeing that he can run, we kind of understand we’re going to see more RPOs,” Harris said.
And if the Broncos aren’t prepared and give up “huge lanes in the RPO game,” said “The Drive” co-host Alfred “Big Al” Williams, it might make for a good day for Driskel and the Bengals.
“… The guy’s going to check it down, he’s going to scramble, he’s going to run, and he’s going to throw to his tight end. And it’s going to be a tight game,” Williams said.
Head coach Vance Joseph called Driskel a “special athlete” and said he is an “NFL quarterback and we can’t sleep on him.”
“We’re not going to discount this guy’s ability. He was a big-time guy in high school and in college, and he’s getting his turn to play,” Joseph said. “It’s been numerous guys who have played for the first time that have proven their worth. We’re looking forward to the challenge, and he’s a real guy.”
Joseph said he expects some changes to the Bengals offense with Driskel under center, but he’ll still likely rely heavily on the talented weapons around him, like running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver A.J. Green.
“They’ve got four or five skill guys that we have to take care of. I don’t see it changing an awful lot, but with a young guy making his first start, it’s got to change some,” Joseph said. “He has weapons around him to use, so we’ll see how that works.”
And it’ll be Harris, who drew the assignment of covering Antonio Brown much of last week, who gets to take on Green in Week 13.
“I’ve got another dogfight ahead of me. Just have to continue to be consistent every week,” Harris said.
