Lammey: ‘C.J. Anderson, you can’t come home’ to Denver Broncos

Nov 13, 2018, 11:21 AM

The Carolina Panthers waived former Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson on Monday, but don’t expect his former club to be calling him up.

“Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey said among the teams interested in Anderson’s services — the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers to name a few — none will likely be the Broncos.

“Coming back to Denver, it sounds great. It sounds like what a reunion. But the reality of the situation is they’ve moved on and that C.J. Anderson, you can’t come home,” Lammey said.

Lammey said it’s “not the right move for the Denver Broncos” to bring back Anderson, especially given their running back situation.

Denver ranks in the NFL’s top 10 in a number of team rushing categories, including first in yards per attempt (5.2).

“With Royce Freeman healthy and getting back and Phillip Lindsay being the phenomenon, Denver’s moved on. And they’ve left C.J. Anderson behind,” Lammey said.

The Broncos officially moved on from Anderson in April, releasing the rusher in mid-April after his first career 1,000-yard rushing season in 2017.

Anderson spent five seasons with the Broncos after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2013.

In May, Anderson signed a one-year, $1.75 million deal with Carolina, according to Spotrac.com.

He made just one start in nine games with the Panthers, rushing just 24 times for 104 yards. Anderson’s only touchdown of the 2018 season came on a 24-yard pass, his only reception of the year.
