Schlereth: Cardinals game ‘telling’ how Broncos players view Joseph

Oct 16, 2018, 11:29 AM

Amid a four-game losing streak, Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph said Monday he “absolutely” believes he’s fighting for his job Thursday against the Arizona Cardinals.

“… That’s every coach in this league every week. If you don’t feel that way, you’re missing something,” Joseph said. “If we were 5-1, I would feel that way. That doesn’t motivate me, I’m already motivated to win games and to fix our football team.”

But as calls for Joseph’s job grow louder among Broncos Country, “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth asked whether his team would be motivated enough to save their coach’s job Thursday.

“I think we’re going to find out. How bad do you want your coach to survive? How bad? How hard are you willing to go out there and play? How hard are you willing to go out there and fight? How much are you willing to sacrifice to put it on the line for that guy?” Schlereth said.
I think it’s going to be telling. I think this game is telling.

“Thursday night, if you roll over and have a bad performance in the desert, then it is time. It’s time to can the whole organization and start from scratch. That’s where you are right now.”

Joseph said he believes everyone is “fighting for their lives,” though that’s not any different than any other week.

“We’ve lost four games in a row and everyone is fighting for their lives. That’s the way we have to play each game we play. In this league, if you’re not desperate for it, you don’t win,” Joseph said. “That doesn’t change anything from week to week for us. Every week we feel like we are desperate to win a football game. That won’t change.”
