Should the Denver Broncos offense run more play-action passes?

Pro Football Focus dug up a stat this week that indicates just how more productive Denver Broncos quarterback Case Keenum is when running play-action passing plays.

According to the analytics site, Keenum’s career passer rating with play-action passes sits at 108.7, more than 30 points higher than his non-play-action passer rating (77.5).

However, Pro Football Focus points out, the Broncos run play-action just 16 percent of the time, good enough for fifth-lowest in the NFL.

On Thursday, “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth said that needs to change.

“The Broncos only running play-action on 16 percent of their plays so far this season, that has to change,” Schlereth said.

“Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley expressed a similar sentiment later Thursday, saying he “hopes” the Broncos start to run play-action more often.

“Obviously, you’re running the football well. You want to use that to your advantage in the passing game. So use more play-action passes,” Stokley said. “Case Keenum’s really good at it. I’ve seen them do it and when they do it they have good success.”
