Should the Broncos trade for a franchise QB, like, say, Andrew Luck?

Oct 9, 2018, 11:57 AM

So far through just more than a quarter of the NFL season, results on the Case Keenum experiment with the Denver Broncos have been middling at best.

After five games, Keenum ranks 22nd in the NFL in completion percentage (63.5 percent), 25th in touchdown passes (5), 26th in interception percentage (3.6 percent), and 30th in quarterback rating (33.2).

If those figures hold, and Keenum ends up not being the quarterback of the future for the Broncos, “Pritchard and Cecil” co-hosts Mike Pritchard and Cecil Lammey said Tuesday why not explore a trade for a franchise quarterback.

“Now, it goes back to the cost and what does it take to get him, but it doesn’t matter because you’re teetering on becoming Cleveland,” Pritchard said. “You’re teetering on becoming a factory of sadness. If you don’t fix it, that’s the path that you’re on right now if you’re the Denver Broncos.

“So, yeah, go out there and get a franchise quarterback, and it doesn’t matter what it costs.”

Among the names floated by Lammey on Tuesday — a self-admitted “outrageous” suggestion — is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.

“Why not make a move and trade for Andrew Luck?” Lammey said. “I mean, seriously. If today’s the day we’re going to talk about outrageous things that are out there that will never possibly happen but are interesting to think about …”

“If you don’t have a long-term answer at quarterback, you find it.”

Whether it’s Luck or someone else, however, Lammey said trade is a viable option given the Broncos history of drafting and developing quarterbacks.

“And if you can’t draft and develop QBs, which in the history of this team they’ve never done … They didn’t draft John Elway,” Lammey said. “This team has never drafted and developed a quarterback.”

So, if we’re going big, Lammey said, why not dream of landing Luck?

“Go big or go home and trade for Andrew Luck if Case Keenum’s not your guy,” Lammey said.
