Broncos resiliency shows with second comeback win in as many games

Sep 16, 2018, 8:21 PM

Even when the Denver Broncos trailed the Oakland Raiders at halftime 12-0, linebacker Von Miller said his team never lost faith.

“It’s the pros. It’s players on both sides. You can never lose faith. You can never lose faith, especially when the game is 12-0 at half,” Miller said. “All we need is a touchdown and we’re right back in the game.”

For a second consecutive week, the Broncos needed some fourth-quarter magic to ensure a victory, this week coming by a last-second field goal to beat the Raiders 20-19.

“I think two weeks in a row our guys played through adversity,” head coach Vance Joseph said after the game. “We talked about that last night. It wasn’t going to be easy. We came in as a favorite, but it’s a divisional game. It’s never going to be easy.

“Those guys had a hard loss on Monday night, so we knew they were going to bring their best shot.”

Broncos quarterback Case Keenum pointed toward a “great locker room” as a chief reason for his team’s back-to-back come-from-behind wins.

“There are some incredible guys that never quit. Never quit. I love that about them,” Keenum said after the game. “We have great, great chemistry going right now with those guys. No matter what, I don’t think anyone points a finger at any one person. We just keep plugging along.”

But 104.3 The Fan hosts Mike Evans and DMac both pointed to Keenum as the catalyst for Denver’s last-minute heroics in the first two weeks of the season.

“He’s got a lot of guts. And, for a Broncos team that has been soft the last couple of years, he brings them something they desperately need,” Evans said.

Said DMac: “Case Keenum was great when it mattered most, and that’s why he’s here.”
