Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix is backing his offensive coordinator and play-caller Davis Webb.

That’s at least a positive after another ugly day for Denver’s offense.

The Broncos lost 24-14 to the San Francisco 49ers to fall to 2-2 on the season. The offense didn’t score a touchdown until there was 4:05 left in the game. It was the same movie as previous weeks and it’s getting old.

After the game, Nix was asked about his confidence in Webb after essentially one-fourth of the season.

“Yeah, I’m real confident in him. I think when you look at the overall landscape, we’ve played four of the top teams in the league. Not easy for a first-time OC as young as he is to go against some of the, quite frankly the best teams in the league,” Bo Nix said.

The Broncos schedule has been brutal, but some fans are ready for a change back to head coach Sean Payton calling offensive plays, something Payton didn’t slam the door shut on postgame.

In the meantime, Nix thinks the Denver players have to start making Webb look better.

“He definitely is going to continue to work to put us in the right spots. And this isn’t necessarily the first time in my three-year career we’ve scored 14 points. But I think it’s just overall something that we’ve got to continue to help him and execute,” Bo Nix said.

That execution generally doesn’t seem to come until the fourth quarter. The Broncos have scored only 13 points in four first halves this season.

“As players, you gotta put him in a better spot,” Nix said. “Third-and-long, not many plays on that part of the sheet, especially when you’re in it over and over and over and over and over in the game… we’re just not making it easy on him by any means right now.”

That’s a nice Webb endorsement from Bo Nix, but we’ll see if it ultimately makes a difference. If not, a season with Super Bowl expectations could go sideways due to Denver’s poor offense.
