Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton hasn’t called offensive plays through four games.

Could that be changing soon?

Let’s wait and see.

The Broncos were beaten by the San Francisco 49ers by a final score of 24-14 on Sunday afternoon, and once again the offense looked like a huge issue. Denver managed only six points in the first 55 minutes of the game.

New offensive coordinator Davis Webb certainly hasn’t lived up to the hype, and after the loss Payton was asked about the play-calling situation he has with Webb.

“It’s too early to… it’s a fair question. I appreciate it. And, man, it’s tough to discuss any of that right now,” Sean Payton said.

That certainly wasn’t an endorsement of Webb, as the Broncos have managed only 13 first half points through four games. It’s a staggeringly low total.

“I told those guys, we’ve played some tough teams, and this was another good football team. There were a lot of things we did well defensively for a good portion of the game,” Payton said.

Payton’s mind drifted to the defense on a day in which they kept Denver in it. He then circled back to Webb.

“To your original question, each game we look at everything and that’s kind of how we’ll approach this one,” Sean Payton said.

With the Broncos looking at everything it feels like a change could be on the table. Payton will next meet with the media on Monday morning and surely get pressed about it again. In the meantime, he has a sense of urgency about fixing these offensive problems.

“We’ve had some opportunities, but there are a handful of things that aren’t clicking. And we gotta figure it out fast, because we’re going into Week 5,” Payton said.

The 2-2 Broncos will travel to face the 0-4 Chargers next, a talented team that has severely underachieved.

Hopefully, Denver’s offense can get back on track, but we’ll see if it’s Sean Payton or Davis Webb calling the plays.
