Schedule: Broncos open up 2019 at Oakland on Monday Night Football

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Denver Broncos will open up the regular season on the road as they’ll travel to Oakland on Sept. 9 to take on the Raiders on Monday Night Football.

The game will also serve not only as an extension to Denver’s streak of playing at least one game on Monday Night Football a year to 28 seasons but also as the final time the Broncos travel to Oakland to play the Raiders before the club moves to Las Vegas after the 2019 season.

“(Oakland) will be an important division game for us,” said head coach Vic Fangio in a release. “They have improved their team with their offseason moves up to this point and they have a bunch of draft picks here coming up. That will be a big challenge going out there.”

The Raiders will travel to Denver to wrap up the 2019 regular season as well on Dec. 29.

Among the other highlights from Wednesday’s schedule release includes the Broncos home opener against Fangio’s former squad, the Chicago Bears, in Week 2 on Sept. 15.

“We know every year there seems to be a last-to-first story. We were that in Chicago last year,” Fangio said. “I suppose a lot of teams counted us as a win last year. Every season is a new season and the order they choose for us to play them in, we’ll play them in.”

The Broncos will host the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football in Week 7 on Oct. 17, the final of only two prime time games for the team in 2019.

Denver has a Week 10 bye before traveling to Minnesota on Nov. 17, where they will clash against former head coach and executive Gary Kubiak, who now serves as the Vikings assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.

The Broncos will also play a fifth preseason game this year, as they’ll take on the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 1 in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game ahead of the enshrinement of owner Pat Bowlen and former cornerback Champ Bailey.
