Nathaniel Hackett addresses his job security after yet another awful loss

Nov 20, 2022, 5:52 PM

At this point, it could be a matter of hours.

Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett might not have a job for long, after Denver suffered another brutal defeat on Sunday. This time it came to the Las Vegas Raiders, 22-16, in a game the Broncos had ample opportunities to win. It was Denver’s third overtime loss this year. Davante Adams and Derek Carr burned the secondary for the game-winning touchdown.

After the game, Hackett was asked about his job security with the team now 3-7 and the Russell Wilson era off to a pathetic start.

“For me, everything’s about this team and this staff. I’ve told you guys that before. I just want to do everything I can to help this team win. We’ve been so close, we’ve had so many opportunities. We’ve had a lot of things happen this year that are unfortunate. But we have to continually find ways to win. That’s my sole purpose, that’s all I’m looking to do,” Hackett said.

Yes, the Broncos have found ways to lose games in a mind boggling ways, but they’re still losses. Injuries have been a factor as well, but that’s something every team deals with. Denver’s had more than their fair share, but Hackett also didn’t have this team prepared with his soft training camp and preseason.

When asked if he’s spoken with general manager George Paton or CEO Greg Penner about his future, Hackett noted it’s out of his hands.

“Whatever happens, those things I can’t control. And I always communicate with everybody. We talk about everything, show them all the different things that are going on so that they can have all their questions answered, and go from there,” Hackett said.

We’ll see if Paton or Penner feels like they have to make a move this week. If it’s going to happen, it’ll be in the next 24 hours.

But losing to the Raiders twice in on season, particularly to Josh McDaniels of all people, is a good way to get yourself fired.

So now, we wait.
