Father-in-law of former Bronco sold the winning $2 billion Powerball ticket

Nov 8, 2022, 5:53 PM

This is completely random, but also very cool.

The father-in-law of former Broncos defensive lineman Domata Peko sold the winning $2.04 billion Powerball ticket at his store in Altadena, California. Peko confirmed the news on his Instagram story and Darren Rovell, sports business reporter for Action Network, shared it on Twitter as well.

As Rovell says, Joe Chahayed will receive $1 million for selling the lucky ticket. He is the father of Peko’s wife, Anna.

While Peko is primarily known for his time with the Bengals, he did spend two seasons with the Broncos in 2017 and 2018 before finishing his career with the Ravens and Cardinals. Peko recorded 69 tackles and 1.5 sacks during his time in Denver. His cousin, Kyle Peko, also spent parts of three seasons with the Broncos.

There was just one winner of the Powerball drawing on Monday night, so that person will take home the entire jackpot. After taxes, it will be around $720 million, should the person take the cash option. For perspective, Domata Peko made around $47 million during his NFL career.

Now, the family cashes another big check for selling the winning ticket.
