ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Monday night, Russell Wilson injured his hamstring.
Wednesday, he was back in uniform with his helmet on for the Broncos’ walk-through practice. Yes, it wasn’t the normal full-tilt session you’d see on a Wednesday because of the short turnaround after the Monday-night overtime loss to the Chargers.
But in a post-practice injury report that is designed to reflect expected participation in a normal session, the Broncos listed Wilson as limited. Which isn’t a full workload — but is the same as he had last week in the corresponding practice leading up to the game.
“I heal quick. I don’t know if it’s wolverine blood or what,” he said, chuckling. “But getting better.”
When asked whether he would play Oct. 23 against the New York Jets, Wilson said that he was “hoping” he would.
“I’m doing everything I can to get ready to roll,” he said.
His coach, Nathaniel Hackett, expects Wilson to be ready for the game.
“Yeah, of course. With him, he’s a very tough competitor,” Hackett said. “He’s going to do every single thing he can to possibly get out on that field.”

The Broncos listed four players as not practicing:
- Essang Bassey (hamstring)
- Josey Jewell (knee)
- D.J. Jones (ankle)
- Quinn Meinerz (foot)
Meinerz returned Monday after missing nearly five full games with a hamstring injury. Jewell sat out last week’s game with a knee injury.
Bassey’s injury continues a pattern of hamstring issues befalling the Broncos. Meinerz, Edge rusher Jonathon Cooper, WR Tyrie Cleveland and TE Greg Dulcich have also dealt with hamstring injuries this year.
In addition to Wilson, five other players were listed as limited:
- WR Tyrie Cleveland (shoulder)
- CB Damarri Mathis (knee)
- S Caden Sterns (hip)
- RT Billy Turner (knee)
- CB K’Waun Williams (wrist/elbow)
Sterns did not play Monday because of the hip issue.
Turner saw his first regular-season work of the season when he checked in during the second quarter Monday night. He played the rest of the game at right tackle.
When Turner entered the game, previous starter Cameron Fleming flipped to left tackle.
“We’re going to look for some continuity there. I think Billy came in and he did a good job — especially for not playing football a lot,” Hackett said. “I thought he competed and did some good things. Obviously a little bit rusty because it was his first time out there.”
