Pat Surtain II says Broncos main goal is “the big stage, which is the Super Bowl”

It’s only April, so why not dream big?
The Denver Broncos are still participating in organized team activities at the UCHealth Training Center and it’s more clear than ever that Russell Wilson has brought a new level of juice, energy and expectations to the building.
Pat Surtain II is entering his second-year in the NFL and everyone is projecting big things from the former No. 9 overall pick. Just like week, safety Justin Simmons said he thinks Surtain can be a top-5 cornerback in the league.
“I could view myself as that,” Surtain said on Tuesday when asked about Simmons’ comments. “Of course, I’ve got to build on that and focus on day in and day out and week in and week out, preparing the right way and just consistency. I’m going to work towards that, but I’m going to focus on what I need to do first.”
The Broncos secondary could be scary good in 2022 with Surtain, Simmons, Kareem Jackson, the addition of K’Waun Williams and players like Ronald Darby and Caden Sterns.
“We have a lot of potential. We obviously added new key additions on the secondary and in the defense. It’s going to be a very exciting year, the defense is going to fly around, make big time plays. I’m very excited for this upcoming season,” Surtain said.
But the most interesting part of Surtain at the podium may have been his answer when asked about the new standard at Broncos headquarters with the addition of Wilson and new head coach Nathaniel Hackett.
“You can tell the energy has been different. The coach has been different. We set our minds on the season ahead, just completing that big time goal. The main goal is getting to the big stage, which is the Super Bowl. We’re preparing to get to that point in the offseason and it starts right now. I can just feel the team’s energy, the focus, as it shifts toward the season. Just focusing on getting to that big game, you can just feel it around the building,” Surtain said.
Again, it’s April, so it’s easy to be optimistic, but it’s still great to see Surtain mentioning the Super Bowl. Remember, he played his college football at Alabama, so championships are the standard there.
And they’re the standard in Broncos Country as well, even though it’s been a few years. It’s nice to have that attitude back at Dove Valley.
