Now is the time to see if the Broncos’ offensive pieces can develop

Feb 23, 2021, 5:00 AM

The Denver Broncos have a lot of work to do this offseason.

What will they do at the quarterback position? Will Von Miller remain a Bronco? Can they sign Justin Simmons to a long-term deal?

But one thing is for sure: This Broncos offense is all but finished.

It may sound strange to say an offense that averaged 20 points a game is done building. However, wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler will be entering year two, wideout Courtland Sutton will be back from injury and tight end Noah Fant will be in year three.

The offensive line will be returning four out of five starters, and Melvin Gordon still has a year left of his contract.

With the other positions taken care of, there isn’t much that needs to be addressed on the Broncos offense beside the quarterback position.

Now it is time to see if these players can develop.

Denver does have questions at quarterback. Will Drew Lock be the guy? Can they get Deshaun Watson? Will George Paton draft his quarterback of the future?

But with all that said, the roster around said quarterback is finished. It’s time to see if the Broncos can develop Drew Lock or find a quarterback of the future to elevate this offense.

Denver’s offense has been bad for years — bottom of the barrel. It sounds weird to say this offense is nearly constructed after watching the debacle that was 2020, but the time for drafting offensive players has passed.

It’s development time now.

Will these guys form into great football players? Who knows? But this is where the Broncos are.
