Cheers and Jeers: K-Jack’s DUI, “Star Wars” and Pro Bowl snubs

CHEERS | “Star Wars”
Coming from a somewhat fresh perspective, having only watched any “Star Wars” film for the first time just a few years ago, this week marks a bittersweet ending to one of the entertainment industry’s iconic franchises.
No doubt “The Rise of Skywalker” will cause debate among both die-hard and casual fans, but despite its reception, the film should be lauded for its place as the final chapter of the saga.
May the force be with all of us.
JEERS | Broncos DB Kareem Jackson
K-Jack has been one of the bright spots in an otherwise dark season for the Denver Broncos — so much so that he perhaps deserved a Pro Bowl nod, but more on that later.
But, in an age in which sober drivers are literally a few button clicks away, driving under the influence is inexcusable.
Yes, Jackson apologized for his arrest in September which subsequently led to his two-game suspension this and next week. But it still puts a dark cloud over an otherwise stellar season for the veteran defensive back, and for an organization that’s seen its share of off-field incidents over the past decade.
CHEERS | Former CSU QB Collin Hill
There seemed to be a fair amount of vitriol and disgust floating about the internet on Thursday following CSU Rams quarterback Collin Hill’s announcement that he intends to finish his eligibility elsewhere.
Disgusting.
Of course, it’d be nice to see Hill finish his career in green and gold, but that’s not what’s best for him in his opinion. And that should be supported.
This is a kid who has been nothing but generous and kind in his dealings with the media, who has suffered three devastating knee injuries in recent years and who just saw his head coach excused from his job.
Good luck, Collin, in your next endeavor. This Ram fan will be pulling for you.
JEERS | Pro Bowl snubs
Admittedly, a five-win Broncos squad likely hasn’t earned multiple spots on the AFC’s Pro Bowl roster. But that doesn’t mean some individuals were overlooked.
Justin Simmons, for instance, wasn’t even listed as an alternate despite being ranked as Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded safety in the NFL.
In an injury-shortened season, Derek Wolfe had as many sacks as Von Miller (Denver’s lone Pro Bowl representative), to go with 12 quarterback hits, 34 tackles and a forced fumble.
Perhaps the biggest snub, though, is sophomore wideout Courtland Sutton, who is an alternate. He’s played with three quarterbacks in 2019 and still managed 63 receptions for 1,019 yards and six touchdowns.
The system is broken.
