Five Burning Questions: Emmanuel Sanders on rodeo, small country life and ‘Prime Time’

Jun 19, 2019, 7:22 AM | Updated: 7:44 am

Last week, Denver Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders joined Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan in studio for the second time this offseason (which you can watch here), following up his explosive interview with “The Drive” co-host DMac earlier this spring.

The Fan was also able to catch up with the veteran wideout after the interview to hit him with some additional “hard-hitting” questions.

Enjoy.

Digital content producer Johnny Hart: Fellow Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton also played his college football at SMU. What’s it like having a taeammate who also went to your alma mater?

Emmanuel Sanders: It’s awesome, man. We’ve got three SMU guys. I’ve always been kidding with DaeSean Hamilton, saying that SMU’s wide receiver ‘U.’ So, it feels good.

JH: In the interview with “The Drive,” you said you considered joining the Army out of high school. What would that have looked like for you?

ES: I don’t know. I just wanted to get out of my small country town.

JH: Speaking of a small country town, what did a typical Friday night in Bellville, Texas, look like for you?

ES: Man, we used to have pasture parties. LIke after games, you’d just have pasture parties. Just go out, just hang out in a pasture. Trucks and turning the lights on and music on and just have fun.

JH: Both of your uncles were rodeo cowboys. Did you ever learn how to rope a cow?

ES: I used to like stand in front of my house with a rope and rope like a fake cow, but I never got on a horse and tried the real thing or rode a bull or anything like that. So, I just saw him do it.

JH: What football player did you idolize growing up?

ES: I played quarterback and running back in high school. I played a little bit of wide receiver.  But my inspiration was Deion Sanders. He was in the league in his prime. He had the last name Sanders. So, he was my role model.
