Lammey: If Broncos are in ‘win-now’ mode, explore Antonio Brown trade

The Antonio Brown saga with the Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly came to a turning point on Tuesday when the wide receiver officially asked for a trade, per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

With the news of Brown seeking an exit from Pittsburgh, “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey said the Denver Broncos may want to entertain, but not necessarily execute, a trade for Brown if they truly believe they’re in a “win-now mode.”

“If they are serious about being in a win-now mode, they will explore trading for Antonio Brown. They should. So, either you’re going to talk about it or you’re going to be about it,” Lammey said.

If the price, or fit with team chemistry, is too taxing, Lammey said the Broncos shouldn’t pursue Brown any further. But just the act of looking into acquiring the All-Pro wide receiver would demonstrate they intend to compete immediately in 2019.

“Antonio Brown doesn’t have to land here for the Broncos to show, hey, we took a look at him,” Lammey said.

However, Lammey’s co-host, Mike Pritchard, bucked at the notion of Brown, and the baggage he’ll seemingly carry with him, coming to Denver.

“You don’t do it. The easy answer is don’t do it. It’s too difficult to try to figure out if Antonio Brown is going to fit in with what Vic Fangio’s trying to create here,” Pritchard said.

Brown, 30, has played his entire career with the Steelers, becoming a first-team All-Pro in four consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2017. He’s also been six consecutive Pro Bowls and seven total for his career.
