Pritchard hopes Keenum realizes gravity of being called ‘short-term fix’

In his first time speaking to the media since Denver Broncos general manager John Elway called him a “short-term fix,” quarterback Case Keenum seemingly shrugged off the remark.

Keenum said on Wednesday he’s taking the comments for what they’re worth, but it wouldn’t affect him as he gets ready for the upcoming 2019 season.

“It’s not something that’s affecting me and my preparation and how I’m ready to go as a football player and what my job is. It’s not affecting my job,” Keenum said. “For me, I take more of what my coaches say and the meetings that we’ve had.

“I had a great meeting with John (Elway) at the end of the year, and we’ve all got to be better. That’s hands down what it comes down to. I was mad just like every other Broncos fan watching all these playoff games and us sitting at home. I feel the same way that we’ve all got to be better.”

Reacting to the comments Thursday, “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Mike Pritchard said Keenum needs to understand the gravity of Elway calling him a “short-term fix,” that it means the GM doesn’t think his quarterback can get better or live up to what the organization needs out of him.

“That’s something that I think Case Keenum needs to realize,” Pritchard said.

And after taking a step backward in 2018 after a strong 2017 season with the Minnesota Vikings, Keenum not only need to meet expectations set for him in 2019 but exceed them, Pritchard said, or the Broncos could be moving on.

“I hope he gets it for his sake, and I hope he gets it for the Broncos sake. I really do. I’m not saying these words because I’m negative on Case Keenum,” Pritchard said. “I just hope he realizes the opportunity that he has. And I hope he realizes that the time for that opportunity is running out.”
