Should the Broncos call in Peyton Manning as a quarterback consultant?

With all the team’s woes at quarterback since Peyton Manning retired after the 2015 season, imagine if the Denver Broncos could find the next version of the future Hall of Famer to lead them into the next decade.

On Friday, 104.3 The Fan’s Orlando Franklin said the Broncos should tap directly into the source and work with Manning on finding the franchise its quarterback of the future.

“Why not consult with him? And he’s already sitting there breaking down NFL quarterbacks tapes,” said Franklin, who filled in for “Schlereth and Evans” on Friday.

This fall Manning joined the ESPN+ program “Detail,” breaking down the film of NFL quarterbacks like Matthew Stafford and Patrick Mahomes for the company’s digital platform.

So, why couldn’t Manning branch out a little further and evaluate NFL backups, college prospects, and more, Franklin said.

“I think Peyton Manning could be the ultimate influence if that branch is available,” said Mike Pritchard, Franklin’s co-host on Friday.

Denver 7 Insider Troy Renck, who joined Franklin and Pritchard on Friday, said that it’d be “worth a phone call” to see if Manning would be interested, saying the retired quarterback “knows more about his profession, and that position specifically,” than anyone he’s been around.

“If it’s me and I’m 6-10 and 5-11 the previous year, I’m reaching out to anybody I think can help me get back on track,” Renck said.

However, from everything he has been told, Renck said Manning is not “going to dip his toes into the water” but rather would look to run things should he return to the NFL.

“It’d be cool if you could find a way to have him even contribute in that small fashion,” Renck said. “But everything I’ve been told about Peyton is that if he does walk back into football it would be in a full capacity as a decision-maker.”
