Do the Broncos need to get Emmanuel Sanders more involved on offense?

While the Denver Broncos have surged back into playoff contention with three straight wins, the team’s offense still ranks in the bottom half of the NFL in points per game (23).

So in order to produce more offense, the equation is simple, said “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey: Emmanuel Sanders is good, so “get him involved as much as you can.”

“If the Broncos want to be better offensively, if they want to score more points, if they want to be better and more efficient in the red zone, they need to get Emmanuel Sanders more involved,” Lammey said.

Through 12 games, Sanders ranks 18th in the NFL in terms of targets (98) and has 71 receptions for 868 yards on the season.

However, Lammey said in order to see “more scoring, more offense, more explosiveness,” they need to get Sanders more involved.

“But do they though?” said Lammey’s co-host, Mike Pritchard, on Tuesday.

Pritchard said the Broncos would love to score more points, but he thinks they have to stick with what’s working — which includes a potent run game.

“There’s good synergy going on. I don’t know if you go out of your way to just force feed a particular player,” Pritchard said. “… I don’t think that’s the direction the Broncos should go.”

Running back Phillip Lindsay ranks first in the AFC and fourth in the NFL in rushing yards (937) while the team ranks fifth in the league (1,590).

Lammey said he doesn’t want to take away touches from Lindsay, but perhaps the rest of them could be diverted more toward Sanders.

“Don’t take carries away from Phillip. But, yeah, throwing to Matt LaCosse? I’d rather through to Emmanuel Sanders,” Lammey said.

But Pritchard said an extra one or two targets a game likely won’t make a huge dent for the Broncos.

“One more target’s really going to make a difference? Come on man,” Pritchard said. “Eight targets a game is a lot. I mean, when you’ve got other weapons …”
