Clough: Argument to be made for Broncos going after John Harbaugh

Nov 6, 2018, 7:53 AM

The future of John Harbaugh with the Baltimore Ravens looks bleak following a loss Sunday to the Pittsburgh Steelers. But that could have potentially positive ramifications for the Denver Broncos, says 104.3 The Fan’s Sandy Clough.

Harbaugh’s hot seat in Baltimore got a little hotter with the loss to the Steelers, but Clough sees a potential soft landing in Denver should the veteran head coach lose his job.

“I could see a very strong argument being made for bringing in John Harbaugh in,” Clough said.

Clough pointed to Harbaugh’s relationship with Broncos front office advisor Gary Kubiak, who was the Ravens offensive coordinator under Harbaugh in the 2014 season — statistically Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco’s best season.

“Gary Kubiak and John Harbaugh get along, got along very well. I could see that connection leading to the Broncos going after John Harbaugh if he is available,” Clough said.

Had Harbaugh lost his job last season, Clough said, it would have made for an interesting decision the Broncos would have had to make regarding the status of their own head coach, Vance Joseph.

“It would have been interesting last year had John Harbaugh, or even Bill O’Brien, been dismissed,” Clough said. “The Broncos, who made the decision at the end of the year, perhaps with some reluctance, to sick with Vance Joseph, would they have stayed with that decision?”
