Stokley excited to see young Broncos offensive players take next steps

The Demaryius Thomas trade could go down in the Denver Broncos locker room in one of two ways, Brandon Stokley said on Wednesday.

One, players could see it as a departure of a locker room voice, and it’ll be a major distraction. Two, it could galvanize the locker room around its young core of offensive players.

“A lot of potential there,” Stokley said of the young players on the Broncos offense. “Now let’s see it. Let’s see it when they get to roll out there 50-60 plays rather than playing the 30-35 plays. Now they’re going to be out there a lot more.

“There’s an excitement there from the coaching staff and from the players.”

The “Stokley and Zach” co-host said he’s particularly excited about seeing how rookie Courtland Sutton fills the shoes left behind by Thomas.

“We watched this guy every single day in training camp make spectacular catches. We saw it last week. Chris Harris said this guy should have been a top 10 pick,” Stokley said. “I can’t wait to see the future and get a chance to watch him play a lot of football on Sunday and see how much he improves the rest of the season.

“This guy has all the potential to be a top 5 wide receiver in this league, and I can’t wait to see him get his first start as a No. 2 wide receiver this Sunday.”
