Von Miller points finger at self for production drop since Week 2

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller on Thursday pointed a large thumb back at himself for his lack of production over the past several weeks not only in terms of rushing the passer but also stopping the run.

The former three-time All-Pro said it’s “frustrating” to him when he can’t go out and do his job.

“My job is to rush the passer, get sacks. But at the end of the day, I’ve got to tackle the ball. I’ve got to stop the team from going 300 yards rushing and whatever they went for passing,” Miller said. “At the end of the day, I play defense. My number one priority is to get sacks and it’s frustrating when it’s not happening.”

Miller’s candid remarks about his own play struck a chord with “Stokley and Zach” co-hosts Brandon Stokley and Zach Bye on Thursday as well.

“That was so authentic,” Bye said.

Said Stokley: “He’s real about where he started the season, with (four) sacks in two games, and where he is now. And he said it. It just hasn’t been good enough. He just has to do better.”

Miller started off the season with a bang, grabbing four sacks against the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders, but has not had a sack in the past three weeks.

“You look at the leaderboard, six sacks is the lead. I really had five sacks in Week 2. I have to do more. I had five sacks in Week 2, I should have 10 by now,” Miller said. “It’s not like it’s a secret what the offense is doing. What the offense is doing to me and our guys, they do it to every guy.”

“You still see those guys wrecking shop, making plays,” Stokley said of other prominent pass rushers around the NFL. “And Von said that. That’s exactly what he said. He said I’ve just got to do it better. Those guys go through the same thing.”
