The legend of Denver Broncos rookie Courtland Sutton continues to grow.
On Thursday, the first-year wide receiver earned the praises of not just a teammate but also one of his contemporaries — Emmanuel Sanders.
Sanders, who in his own right has had a strong training camp thus far, added to the pile of praise Sutton’s received by saying he’s “hands down” the best rookie wide receiver he’s seen.
“With the type of catches that he’s been making out here on this field, if you translate that to a game … oh my god, he’s about to set the world on fire,” Sanders said. “I’m telling you.”
And never has Sanders expected a teammate to contend for rookie of the year, except for Sutton.
“I’ve never seen a guy that I’ve said could be rookie of the year, even coming in with Le’Veon (Bell),” Sanders said. “I wasn’t saying that Le’Veon can be the rookie of the year. But Courtland can be the rookie of the year.”
The comments come after a heap of accolades from players and media alike.
On Wednesday, Broncos linebacker Shaquil Barrett said Sutton’s the best second-round pick he’s ever seen.
Last week, safety Will Parks called Sutton “LeBron James on the field.”
Sanders’ comments even echo those of “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley, who said Sutton could push for Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2018.
“The guy’s got a chance to be really, really good, and I’m serious when I say that guy could be offensive rookie of the year this year,” Stokley said last week.
Early in camp, however, offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said Sutton is still “young,” but he was excited because he knows “he’s going to improve as he goes.”
Similar to Musgrave, Sanders said Sutton still needs to work on some things, like route running, but from a “playmaking standpoint” he has impressed.
“I’m just excited to get into the red zone. Think about it. We’ve got three chances to throw this guy the football. Good luck,” Sanders said.
