Pritchard not laughing at Sanders’ joke on playing slot for Broncos

Denver Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders joked with reports on Wednesday that he enjoys playing in the slot “if the ball is coming there.”

“If the ball is not coming there, I don’t want to be there. Point blank, period,” Sanders said with a laugh.

However, the joke fell flat for “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Mike Pritchard.

“It’s not even funny, really. To hear a guy say that, it’s not even funny,” Pritchard said on Thursday. “I know he got some laughs, the laugh track from the media that was there. That wasn’t funny.

“What does that mean? Only if the ball’s going there? What does that mean?”

Pritchard, who himself played nine seasons in the NFL at wide receiver, said he didn’t appreciate the comments, and if Sanders is asked to line up in the slot, whether he gets the ball should be irrelevant.

“There are 11 people on either side of the football. You’re trying to make a play work. They want you to line up in the slot to make the play work, you line your behind up in the slot to make the play work,” Pritchard said. “The ball’s not coming there, so what? For you to say that publically, I don’t like it.”

Pritchard also suggested that Sanders needs to be accountable to his teammates and his comments shouldn’t be welcomed by the Broncos locker room.

“I don’t know why people there accept it, to be honest with you. Someone needs to get in his mug and say, ‘Sanders, what are you doing, man? What are you saying? You know what we’re trying to do here? We’re trying to win,” Pritchard said. “We’re not trying to get you the football. We’re trying to win.

“I don’t know how that’s not evident at this point. You’re 5-11, you devalued yourself, you had the stinkeye for a while, and yet this guy can feel comfortable saying something like that.”
