Renck: In incentives ‘boost,’ Broncos ‘reward’ top-defender Harris

Apr 18, 2018, 8:51 AM

Following a report Monday from ESPN’s Field Yates indicating the Denver Broncos had added $3 million in incentives to cornerback Chris Harris Jr, Denver 7 Insider Troy Renck called it a well-deserved “reward” for a potential future Ring of Famer.

Yates reported Wednesday morning that, with the extra $3 million in incentives, Harris could make up to $10.5 million in 2018 — a “nice boost for a standout player.”

Renck — who confirmed the Broncos had added those incentives but added how “reachable” they are is still unknown — echoed Yates, saying Denver wanted to give a “boost” to one of its top defenders.

“Chris signed for an under-market value than if he had gone on the free agent market a few years ago, and this is their way to reward one of their best players,” Renck said. “Along with Von Miller, Chris is their top defensive player now with Aqib Talib no longer in Denver.”

And Renck called Harris an “unbelievable Bronco,” especially given his status as an undrafted college free agent to now an All-Pro and potential Ring of Famer.

“Chris Harris, for me, is going to down as a Ring of Famer. He is one of the most versatile defensive players in the league because of his ability to play outside and play inside against slot receivers,” Renck said. “So, good for Chris Harris.”
