Pat Surtain II offers strong endorsement of Bo Nix, ‘he shows up when it matters’

"There's no other quarterback I'll go to bat for other than Bo Nix," Broncos star CB Pat Surtain II told Jordan Schultz on his podcast

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix has been the subject of a lot of criticism this season.

But one thing remains true about Nix despite the ups-and-downs: he’s a winner.

Nix and the Denver defense has the team at 6-2 through eight games and atop the AFC West. In fact, the Broncos are the No. 2 seed in the conference, not only surviving a brutal schedule to start the year — but thriving.

Another constant has been Denver teammates supporting Nix no matter what. We’ve seen if from Courtland Sutton, among others, and now it’s star cornerback Pat Surtain II’s turn.

PS2 went on the “Schultz Report” with NFL insider Jordan Schultz and was asked about how he responds to Nix’s doubters.

It’s a great and thorough answer from the best defensive back in football.

“When I look at Bo, man, I see the work that he puts in each and every week. I see how much he cares about success. How much he cares about winning. How much he cares about the team. There’s no other quarterback I’ll go to bat for other than Bo Nix, because he shows up when it matters,” Surtain told Schultz.

Showing up is rallying in the fourth quarter time and again, like when Nix and the Broncos outscored Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs 15-0 in the final frame last Sunday. It was an epic comeback to launch Denver into first place in the division.

“He buys into the process. He rallies all the guys together. He’s a selfless leader as well, too. And there’s always a notion just surrounding the quarterback position. When you look at wins or losses, you know everybody looks at the quarterback position. But what he’s been able to… he always comes out finding ways to get it done and that’s all that matters at the end of the day,” Surtain said.

Last year, Nix led the Broncos to a 14-3 record and the No. 1 seed in the AFC. They might be able to do it again this season — despite a roller coaster ride through the first eight games.

“Nothing but respect to my dawg Bo, because you know he shows up when it matters. When you have a guy like that, that’s leading the huddle, commanding the huddle, he’s gonna do great things for sure,” Surtain said.

Those great things have Broncos Country feeling much more relaxed than after a 2-2 start — or even wins against the Chargers and Seahawks that were unsatisfying to an extent.

The last two weeks against Arizona and Kansas City looked a lot better, particularly when it comes to explosive plays.

Is the Denver offense perfect? No.

But a guy like Surtain backing Nix should be enough of an endorsement to show the locker room truly believes in him to hopefully lead the Broncos to the mountaintop.
