Courtland Sutton says ‘tide is going to turn’ and people will call Bo Nix ‘the best’

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton gave an impassioned defense of QB Bo Nix last week.

On Wednesday afternoon, he did it again.

After the Broncos offense struggled mightily in the second half against the Seahawks, an ugly 17-14 OT win, the critics were out in full force.

Former NFL QB Ryan Fitzpatrick blasted Nix while Sean Payton had to answer questions about whether or not Nix would be benched.

Sutton, who’s one of the best soundbites on the team, keeps going to bat for his quarterback — starting with his work ethic.

“If you ask anybody in that building that comes and watches us practice, there’s not one person that can say that Bo Nix doesn’t come out to practice and give us everything he has to help us be successful,” Courtland Sutton said.

No one doubts that Nix is working hard, but after two ankle surgeries in the last 10 months, he seems to be in a tough place mentally. Nix admitted as much on Wednesday. But Sutton welcomes the chatter.

“People can say what they want to say. We know that he’s putting his all into being the best version of himself so that we can have success,” Courtland Sutton said. “At some point the tide is going to turn. People have had critiques and criticism and 99 percent of them have never played quarterback in the NFL… we know that he’s working his butt off for us to be able to have success.”

Sutton believes that Nix and the entire Broncos offense will get back on track sooner rather than later. In fact, he thinks people will be heaping praise on Nix down the road.

“At some point the tide is going to turn and everyone’s going to be ‘ah, man, Bo Nix is the best, Bo Nix this, Bo Nix that.’ And it’s like nah, keep that same energy,” Courtland Sutton said.

If anyone is calling Nix “the best” that means Denver has a legitimate shot to win the Super Bowl. With an elite defense, even a competent offense would be a huge compliment.

The problem is the Broncos offense is second worst in the NFL, averaging 252.2 yards per game. Only the hapless Titans are behind them at 236.3 yards per contest.

“We’ve seen this offense be successful and we’ve added nice pieces to this offense. It’s going to happen. It’s bound to happen. There are too many weapons on our offense and it’s going to happen at some point. And when it does, everyone will be like, ‘oh you guys figured it out.’ We all we got, we all we need at the end of the day,” Sutton said.
