Bo Nix says Broncos received ‘nasty wake-up call’ in embarrassing loss

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix waited for this moment for a long time.

Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs was Nix’s first meaningful NFL action since breaking his ankle in the playoffs last year.

It didn’t go well for Nix or the entire Broncos team in an embarrassing 31-10 loss on Monday Night Football.

Nix finished 17-28 passing for only 131 yards, tossing one touchdown and one interception. He also fumbled the football three times, including one that was recovered by the Chiefs.

The first game for new offensive coordinator Davis Webb was a poor one, although head coach Sean Payton took the blame for Denver’s overall pitiful performance across the board.

And when it comes to Bo Nix, he’s wearing this one on the chin. He knows that he and the entire offense simply weren’t good enough.

“I think we just let ourselves down. I think it’s more disappointing that frustrating. I’m not necessarily filled with rage right now. It’s just sort of we let ourselves down and we shot ourselves in the foot,” Nix said.

Denver committed seven penalties for 52 yards and was only 2-12 on third-down. They had one nice offensive drive early to tie the game 7-7, but that was it.

“Literally gave ourselves no chance to succeed today and made it easier for them. Point, blank, period. And we know we have to be better, there are a lot of guys in that locker room that are going to take ownership and gonna be better. And it starts with me,” Bo Nix said.

Not only will the QB need to be better, but the whole offense must improve quickly. J.K. Dobbins ran for only 36 yards. Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle had a combined three catches for 13 yards.

It was ugly all around and Nix knows it.

“We’re going to be better and we don’t have a choice… just a nasty wake-up call today,” Nix said.

That wake-up call hopefully will stop a potential nightmare. The Broncos first six games of the season are brutal, with Jacksonville on deck on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High.

It’s only one game, but Bo Nix and the offense need to get things clicking ASAP.

At least the QB said all the right things postgame.
