Report: Ex-Broncos QB Paxton Lynch will play indoor football in Denver

Former Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch is making a return to football.

It won’t be in the NFL, though.

According to 9NEWS and 104.3 The Fan Broncos insider Mike Klis, Lynch will play for Colorado Spartans beginning in the spring.

Old quarterbacks don’t die. They move on to play Arena Football.

On one hand, good for Paxton Lynch for giving football another shot.

On the other, he’s remembered as one of the biggest busts in Broncos history and a name that can still make some in Denver cringe.

Former Broncos GM John Elway spent a first-round pick on Paxton Lynch in the first-round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Selected at No. 26 overall, Lynch played only five NFL games which included four starts for Denver. He went 1-3 and threw four touchdowns, four interceptions and was sacked 18 times.

The Broncos cut Lynch in September of 2018, quickly admitting their mistake. He had cups of coffee with both the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers, but never got on the field. Lynch’s last official NFL transaction was getting waived by the Steelers in Sept. 2020.

Now 31-years-old, we’ll see what Paxton Lynch still has left in the tank. Fans might want to catch a glimpse of him with the Spartans at the Denver Coliseum — or might not.

Regardless, he’ll try to follow in the path of Tommy Maddox, who as Andrew Mason notes, had an incredible journey from indoor football back to the big leagues.
