DMac: Kelly release more to do with how Broncos viewed QB than arrest

Oct 24, 2018, 6:08 PM | Updated: 8:12 pm

The Denver Broncos parting ways with backup quarterback Chad Kelly on Wednesday had more to do with the gunslinger’s value than his arrest early Tuesday morning, “The Drive” co-host DMac said Wednesday.

The Broncos released Kelly after he allegedly trespassed in an Englewood home following a player-organized Halloween party on Monday night.

Denver general manager John Elway said in a statement to the media that the decision was “made as an organization” after reviewing the pertinent information.

“We agreed that releasing Chad was the right thing to do,” Elway said.

DMac too called it the right move, saying “Chad deserved what he got.” However, the reasoning, he said, had more to do with his value than the offense.

“Let’s just be honest with the process. You’re only as valuable to a team as your ability matches what kind of a pain in the neck you are. And Chad Kelly just wasn’t worth this amount of pain in the neck,” DMac said.

Ultimately, when it came down to it, DMac said the Broncos just “weren’t into Chad Kelly.”

“You should know that the Broncos weren’t really all that into him. It just wasn’t happening,” DMac said. “His margin for error was … I mean he way crossed his margin for error. I mean, he just obliterated the line. He didn’t just tip-toe over that line. He blew it away.”
