Carmelo Anthony’s son gets scholarship offer from dad’s alma mater

Nov 14, 2022, 12:37 PM

Carmelo Anthony had an incredible few months in Syracuse, New York, before getting drafted by the lowly Denver Nuggets.

The star forward led the Orange to a national title, named the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, and then went No. 3 in the infamous 2003 NBA Draft behind LeBron James and Darko Miličić. Melo played eight seasons in Denver, going to four All-Star Games and becoming one of the legends in franchise history. While playing for the Nuggets, he had a son with La La Anthony, Kiyan.

Well, now Kiyan Anthony is nearly all grown up and his father’s Syracuse Orange just offered him a scholarship.

Kiyan is a 6-foot-5 wing in the class of 2025 who attends Christ the King High School in New York. It’s not hard to find the two Anthonys working out, playing hoops across the internet. Melo has stayed tied in with the ‘Cuse, making a $3 million donation toward creating the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center, the men’s and women’s programs practice facility.

The elder Anthony is currently an NBA free agent after spending a season coming off the bench for the Lakers. Melo could end up in Asia as he tries to keep his playing career alive.

All three of LeBron, Melo and Dwyane Wade from the 2003 NBA Draft have sons who have become standout prospects: Zaire Wade, Bronny James and Kiyan.

Kiyan will have to choose, with offers from Memphis, Manhattan, George Mason, and Bryant as well, according to 247 Sports. Could a perfect time to commit to Syracuse be at the school’s 20th anniversary of the 2003 national title later this season?
