Did a potential suitor for Bradley Chubb just drop out of the race?

Oct 26, 2022, 2:14 PM

With rumors flying about a potential Broncos trade of Bradley Chubb, one team that quickly arose was the Philadelphia Eagles. At 6-0, they are in go-for-it mode. Further, they have two first-round picks in next year’s draft thanks to a trade with the New Orleans Saints. So, trading the second of those two choices seemed palatable.

But now, the Eagles have their pass-rush boost.

It comes in the form of Robert Quinn. The Bears traded Quinn to Philadelphia on Wednesday for what NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported was a fourth-round pick.

Quinn is more accomplished than Chubb, but also six years older. At age 32, Quinn is in his 13th NFL season. The 2021 campaign was his fifth double-digit sack campaign, and his second since 2019.

Chubb is having the better season this year. His 5.5-sack tally towers over Quinn’s 1-sack performance to date. Chubb also appears healthier than he has since his rookie season, confirming what he thought during the offseason.

There should still be a market for Chubb. Teams rumored to be in the mix include the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans. The Giants trail the Eagles by a half-game in the NFC East and could view Chubb as a response to Philadelphia’s move.

And despite Quinn’s prolific season last year, Chubb should still fetch more. That’s because of his age and the time to work out a contract. A team trading for Chubb could use the franchise tag on him.

Jordan Schultz also reported for The Score that Chubb and his agent prefer a deal with a team that will sign the 5-year veteran to an extension.

So, the game regarding Chubb remains afoot.

But perhaps the most logical destination — and deal for the Broncos if they want to maximize their return — might now be off the board.
