Cale Makar says Predators fans threw Skittles at him during Game 4

Don’t mess with Cale.

The Avalanche superstar defenseman and Norris Trophy candidate danced in circles around the Nashville Predators during Colorado’s first-round sweep.

But apparently he was so good, Nashville fans had to resort to some dirty and unfortunate tactics. Makar made an interesting revelation postgame when asked about the crowd in Game 4.

“Yeah, the building was really great tonight up until the end, people were throwing Skittles at me during the play, so not too sure why. But other than that the fans were really loud tonight,” Makar said.

Wait, what? Skittles? After he kept answering the question, a reporter followed up about the small but hard fruity candy being launched at Makar and his teammates.

“Yeah, it was just like in the last minute of the game there. I’m not too sure, they were just throwing stuff. They were throwing stuff over the glass before, obviously, not a fun way for your team to end the season like that. But, yeah, a couple Skittles were hitting me during the plays,” Makar said.

When 104.3 The Fan’s DMac asked Makar how he knew they were Skittles, he said he noticed them with his own two eyes.

“I saw them before the face-off on the ice. They don’t have Smarties in the States, I don’t think, so they must be Skittles,” Makar said.

That response caused a reporter to remind Makar that the United State does indeed have Smarties, to which Makar said he’s never seen them in the United States. In Canada, Smarties are chocolate, similar to M&M’s in America. Regardless, Makar was getting hard candy thrown at him by ticked off Predators fans.

“It is what it is. If they want to do that, that’s fine. They have a great fanbase here and it was super loud tonight and it showed right from puck drop. They were fully behind them tonight, and it’s awesome to see, and it’s a lot of fun for us to play in buildings like that, so credit to them,” Makar said.

The 23-year-old might be the most polite player in the league, even giving credit to Nashville fans on his way out the door after their antics. Makar put on a show against the lowly Predators, notching 10 points over the quick four game dismissal. That’s the most points by a defenseman in NHL history through four postseason games.
