Clayton: Observations heading into the Broncos-Rams preseason tilt

Here are a few thoughts on the Broncos game against the Los Angeles Rams slated for Saturday night:
• Even though Calvin Anderson is getting the start at right tackle Saturday, I get the impression Bobby Massie is going to win the job. He’s had a good camp and he’s has a lot of experience starting games.
• It’s still possible that Javonte Williams could beat out Melvin Gordon at starting running back, but I think the Broncos will start Gordon in Week 1. Gordon is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and rushed for nearly 1,000 yards last year. The Gordon-Williams tandem is a good one.
• I wonder after the game how long general manager George Paton will keep his phone open for calls on cornerbacks. Bryce Callahan is probably the cornerback who might go. He’s a good one. First-round pick Patrick Surtain has a chance to be a great one, however.
• It will be good to see Courtland Sutton on the field on Saturday. I don’t know how long he’s going to play. Sutton is making his first appearance in a game after suffering his ACL injury last year.
• Safety is one of the team’s deepest position, so it will be interesting to see how Vic Fangio uses them. Most people think the Broncos are six deep at safety, so some think some good players will be available after the cutdown.
