Could Yankees pinstripes be in Trevor Story’s future?

For those lingering Colorado Rockies fans out there, you may want to avert your eyes.
Rumors about the future destination of Trevor Story have begun to arise, and one involves the All-Star shortstop reuniting with his former teammate D.J. LeMahieu in a different shade of pinstripe.
After speaking to a National League executive, Yankees blogger Dan Federico reports that while New York’s feelings about Story are unclear, the shortstop has taken a liking to the Big Apple.
I asked the same executive about the shortstop market and if the Yankees will be involved. “DJ and Story are good friends. I don’t know how the Yankees feel about Story necessarily, but I know he likes the Yankees. If they’re willing to pay (BIG IF!) I can see that happening.”

It’s likely more rumors of a similar nature will continue to leak out as Story barrels toward the end of his contract with the Rockies at the end of the 2021 season.
Story, however, deflected questions about his future with the Rockies in February, telling 104.3 The Fan Rockies Insider and the Denver Post’s Patrick Saunders he’s not talked to club about a contract extension.
“I’m focused on personally being the best teammate I can be,” Story said. “I try not to look too far ahead. I’m trying to be where my feet are, which is right here in spring training with the Rockies.”
A potential departure for Story would come on the heels of the blockbuster trade that sent future Hall of Fame third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals this offseason.
