If you turn to the sidelines on any given Sunday in the NFL, you’re bound to see some emotions flowing from players before each game. And there’s no better example than the viral video of Knowshon Moreno shedding tears ahead of a battle with the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 1, 2013.
On Tuesday, the former Denver Broncos running back reflected on that clip of him on the sideline with tears streaming down his face, telling “Orlando & Sandy” his high emotions during pregame weren’t something unusual.
“I’m getting emotional just thinking about it,” Moreno said with a laugh. “But yeah, that was my thing. And it was just funny that was the one game that they caught it. Yeah, I mean, we’re all emotional about the game.”
High pregame emotions were something Moreno dates back to even his high school days, saying that moment before kickoff was a time to “really reflect.”
“You know, you have the national anthem playing, you’ve got that moment of silence that you can kind of just run through things in your head. The things that we’re just so blessed to have,” Moreno said. “Now’s my time just to thank God for those moments — the good, the bad — and just to ask for protection for all of us on that field. Because we were rolling out to war every single week. That was my time to just reflect and give thanks and just get ready for the game.”
