New Denver Broncos general manager George Paton has a big task in rebuilding the team — not just the roster but the culture. And the largest task for him is what to do at the quarterback position.
It seemed like a fantasy Deshaun Watson could be interested in Denver. But after reports of his interest, Watson in a Broncos uniform isn’t so far-fetched.
Though why would he want to come here?
The past five seasons have not been great for the Broncos. The team has missed the playoffs five straight years, with four of them being losing seasons.
There has been a carousel of head coaches, coordinators and quarterbacks. This Broncos team, particularly the offense, has struggled tremendously.
So, what would make Denver an appealing spot for the 25-year-old franchise quarterback?

The Broncos young offensive core
A former first-round pick, tight end Noah Fant enters his third season in the NFL. An already established wide receiver, Courtland Sutton will be back from injury. Fellow wideouts Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler will be entering year two, and four out of five offensive linemen will return as starters next year.
This offense is built, all it needs is the right quarterback. Watson could come to Denver and grow with this young core for years to come.

The AFC West makes for a great division
Many argue the AFC West would scare Watson away, but what if he came to Denver and routinely beat both Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert? Watson would become the new face of the league.
A successful Broncos quarterback is a big deal and would be talked about a lot in the media.
When Peyton Manning was in Denver, he was always part of the NFL storyline. And not just because he was Peyton Manning but because he was great.
Watson could have the same impact if he has success with the Broncos.

A defensive minded head coach
Watson could come to Denver and run the offense knowing his head coach will handle the other side of the ball.
Though Vic Fangio has not turned Denver into a defensive juggernaut like he did in Chicago, the Broncos defense has been far better than the Texans the last handful of seasons.
Watson could give the Denver offense the fire power needed to avoid holding this Broncos defense back.

The Broncos have been a bad team the past five seasons, but Denver does have interesting matchups in which Watson can take advantage. The offensive line was good last season, the running game is solid and there are plenty of targets to throw at.
You’d be crazy to think Watson wouldn’t come in here and immediately have success with the offensive weapons the Broncos have.
