Broncos quarterback Drew Lock can join two exclusive clubs this season

May 28, 2020, 6:32 AM

Broncos Country is praying and hoping that Drew Lock is going to be the face of the franchise and the next great quarterback in Denver. Lock has an opportunity to join an elite club that only consists of three quarterbacks.

Those three quarterbacks are Drew Brees, Brett Favre and Ken Stabler. They are the only three second-round quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl.

Since 1984, there have been a total of six quarterbacks to play in a Super Bowl in their second season. Dan Marino, Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson are on the list. Marino and Kaepernick are the only two quarterbacks to not win their Super Bowl in that group.

After finishing last season with 4-1 record in his five starts, Drew Lock has proven to his boss John Elway that he deserves to start every game in the 2020 season. Elway went ahead and has given the second-year quarterback all the pieces in the world to succeed.

In free agency, Denver signed one of the best pass catching running backs in Melvin Gordon to pair with back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher Phillip Lindsay. Elway went out and drafted the best wide receiver prospect in the NFL Draft with Jerry Jeudy. The Broncos also drafted arguably the fastest pass catcher in the draft with K.J. Hamler, who most want to compare to Tyreek Hill. Courtland Sutton, Jeudy and Hamler looks like a nice trio.

Don’t forget about the tight end room, though! Noah Fant had one of the best rookie seasons from a tight end in this century and the orange and blue also drafted Lock’s college teammate, Albert Okwuegbunam.

The Broncos will be returning with a potential top 10 scoring defense once again with the additions of Jurrell Casey and A.J. Bouye. And don’t forget the return of pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

The weapons are there for Drew Lock, as well as the defense. There are no excuses for Lock to not succeed this upcoming season and the chances of the second-year quarterback getting the Broncos to the promised land are a lot better than most people think.
