The quarterback of the defense, inside linebacker Todd Davis returned to the field for the Denver Broncos on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers after spending much of the preseason on the sidelines with a partially torn calf.
But ahead of his regular-season debut, 1043TheFan.com’s Kendall Valenzuela caught up with the veteran linebacker, along with unexpected special guest Bradley Chubb, to talk about his role on the defense and what is the best college football rivalry.
Kendall Valenzuela, host at 1043TheFan.com: You wear the green dot on your helmet. How is it processing that information so quickly?
Denver Broncos inside linebacker Todd Davis: We just try to get the information from the coaches … as soon as he gives us the call, we try to get it and spread it around to the rest of the team. But, for me, it’s fun. I like being able to take control of the defense and get everybody where they need to be.
Valenzuela: Is there one player, past or present, that you tried to mirror your game after?
Davis: For me, it’s been Ray Lewis. I’ll always love him as an inside linebacker. I feel like he’s a great leader, a big play guy, a hard hitter. I love everything about him.
Denver Broncos outside linebacker Bradley Chubb: Todd Davis (laughing). Just the way he approaches the game, the way he comes to practice. Everything. Just a real pro’s pro, and I’m excited to be his teammate.
Valenzuela: What’s the best college football rivalry?
Davis: It would be Sacramento State versus UC Davis. Hands down. It’s called the Causeway Classic. And we’re going to take them down this year.
Chubb: I’ll say the Textile Bowl. NC State–Clemson.
