In ESPN’s latest mock draft, wherein analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay alternated picks through the first three rounds, McShay had the Denver Broncos selecting NC State quarterback Ryan Finley in round three at No. 71 overall.
McShay’s reasoning: “Denver needs someone to develop behind Joe Flacco because, let’s face it, he isn’t the answer.”
But if Denver truly believes Flacco isn’t the answer under center for at least the time being, “The Drive” co-host DMac said on Friday that the Broncos need to just take the best quarterback available at No. 10.
“If he’s not the answer, take Drew Lock at No. 10,” DMac said. “If you really mean that — Flacco isn’t the answer — if you really think that, then take whoever you think is the best quarterback. I know that sounds like me saying take whoever, but I’ll let them decide who they think the best quarterback is, and just take him at No. 10.”
DMac said, to him, it’s obvious that the Broncos are trying to build around Flacco and drafting players to help makes more sense than selecting a quarterback to develop behind him.
“The concept that you would take a player to sit on the bench, maybe for his entire career, over an offensive lineman or an interior defensive lineman right here, to me, is ridiculous,” DMac said.
