Report: Chris Harris Jr skips Day 1 of Broncos offseason workouts

The Denver Broncos embarked on offseason workouts on Tuesday a little lighter than expected.
Per 9News’ Mike Klis, cornerback Chris Harris Jr. opted to skip at least Day 1 of the team’s offseason program to send a message “he’d like his contract revisited sooner rather than later.”
Harris enters the final year of a five-year, $42.5 million contract extension he signed in late 2014 and is due to make $7.8 million in base salary in 2019, per Spotrac.com.
Opting to skip Tuesday’s workouts isn’t considered a holdout as they are voluntary until mandatory minicamp from June 4-6.
While there’s reportedly been interest from both sides about a contract extension for Harris, general manager John Elway said during the NFL owner’s meetings last month that the team wouldn’t engage in talks until after the NFL Draft in late April.
“We’re still concentrating on what we’re doing. We’re going to get through the draft before we think of anything, including Chris Harris,” Elway said, per The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala. “Any guys that are on our team — I know there’s been a lot of talk — but we’re going to get through the draft before we talk about any extensions of any of our guys.”
A four-time Pro Bowler and a 2016 All-Pro, Harris has ranked among the top cornerbacks in the NFL since becoming a full-time starter in 2012.
Last season, Pro Football Focus graded Harris as the third-best cornerback in the league, behind only Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots cornerbacks Desmond King II and Stephon Gilmore.
During his first eight seasons in the NFL, Harris has started 105 games, playing in 123, while grabbing 19 interceptions (four for touchdowns), four fumbles, five forced fumbles, 4.5 sacks, and 80 passes defensed.
