Broncos smart to do ‘homework’ on QB prospects, says Schlereth, Stokley

On Monday, “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth said he couldn’t imagine the Denver Broncos selecting a quarterback with the 10th-overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft.
Later Monday, “Stokley and Zach” co-host Zach Bye said drafting a quarterback at the position would “fly in the face of the win-now path” the Broncos seem to be on.
However, bringing in quarterback prospects like Kyler Murray, Drew Lock, Dwayne Haskins, and Daniel Jones is just smart strategy, both agreed.
“I think it’s important to kind of do the due diligence, to make sure that you’ve vetted these guys properly,” Schlereth said, in case a quarterback slides or Denver wants to jump back into the first round.
Bye’s co-host, Brandon Stokley, said he didn’t expect to see the quarterbacks on the list of those visiting with the Broncos, but he likes it because it’s smart to “always do your homework, especially on that position.”
“They’re probably not going to take one, but you just want to make sure you’re not overlooking anything or not getting the information that you need. Because, you know what, they probably did that a few years ago with Paxton Lynch,” Stokley said.
The comments follow those from Broncos general manager John Elway, who said at this week’s owner’s meetings in Arizona that the team is “doing all our homework.”
“We want to do all our homework and open up the door to where, you know, who knows what we’re going to do at 10? But the key thing is we make sure that we do all our homework on all the kids to see if they’re a good fit for us or not,” Elway said. “So, we’ll continue to do that. Not only quarterbacks. There’s a lot of other guys we’ll be looking at too.”
