Coaching staff upgrade among reasons for Broncos high offseason marks

While still early in the process, the Denver Broncos have earned kudos on how they’ve conducted their offseason — and for more than just the players the team’s acquired.

On Tuesday, “The Drive” co-host DMac questioned how the Broncos could have any other offseason grade than an “A” thus far, specifically lauding the team’s moves within its coaching staff.

“Every single move the Broncos did made sense, and I’d throw the coaching staff in the offseason free agency period,” DMac said.

DMac’s co-host Tuesday, Zach Bye, championed the argument, saying that he believes that general manager John Elway may have one of his best 365-day periods in his tenure at the position.

“I think, and I (also) hope, that we look back at this 365-day window and say, man, I know John struggled (before). He struggled in free agency and in the draft leading up to that point for the previous three or four year. But in this window of time, boy, he got it right,” Bye said.

Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan’s Orlando Franklin said on Monday the Broncos have made “some great moves this offseason,” but none more than the restructuring of the coaching staff.

“… The most important move, for me, was the Broncos assembling a great coaching staff. And I think they did that,” Franklin said.

However, on Tuesday, Franklin only graded Denver’s offseason as a “B-minus,” citing concerns that the team hasn’t addressed the middle linebacker position and the re-signing of tight end Jeff Heuerman.
