Huard: 2017 not aberration for Keenum, but QB’s not Broncos future

Nov 9, 2018, 2:13 PM

The great season Case Keenum had in Minnesota in 2017 may not have totally transferred over to the Denver Broncos in 2018, but college football analyst Brock Huard believes it’s not an aberration.

Joining “Pritchard and Cecil” on Friday, Huard said Keenum’s 2017, in which he took the Vikings to the NFC Championship, is more about being in the “right spot at the right time.”

“I’m not going to say an aberration. I think that minimizes what Case did at the right spot last year,” Huard said. “But I don’t think he is your franchise guy of the future.”

The comments come after NFL Network analyst Brian Billick told “Schlereth and Evans” earlier this week that indeed Keenum’s 2017 may be an aberration.

“I like Case Keenum as well, but it looks like, yeah, we kind of knew what Case Keenum was, kind of a second-tier guy that could do some things. But can he sustain it over a 16-game schedule?” Billick said. “It looks like what he did in Minnesota maybe is the aberration compared to the rule.”

As far as who might be a potential future stud under center for the Broncos, Huard said to look to the 2020 class because “this is not a great class” in 2019.

Among those Huard spoke about were Trevor Lawrence from Clemson and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

“Those two are difference-makers. They can come in to, I think, any program and just, with their god-gifted ability, be different and elevate people,” Huard said.
