Every game, Denver Broncos kicker Brandon McManus dreams it will come down to a boot off his foot to seal a win.
With the game on the line Sunday, however, McManus pushed a potential game-winning field goal from 51-yards out wide right, turning his dream into a nightmare.
“Obviously, the dream always ends with me making it not missing it,” McManus told “Stokley and Zach” on Tuesday.
However, the sixth-year veteran said he’s moved on, as a matter of professional duty, from two missed attempts in a losing effort against the Houston Texans.
“I don’t let missed kicks affect me because I don’t want to stay in a lull and dig myself in a ditch because that’s how your career ends pretty quickly. I don’t plan on that happening,” McManus said.
McManus praised his teammates, for not only the help they provide him in preparing for games each week but also for the support he received following Sunday’s loss.
“We’re out there alone. Our job is black and white. Either you make it or you miss it. There are no ways around it about a bad performance,” McManus said. “So, to have support like that, obviously, it’s great.”
He also lent his support this his head coach, Vance Joseph, who he said made the “right call” going for a 62-yard field goal late in the first half on Sunday.
As for the 51-yarder, he said that while percentage of making a kick are “going to be higher the closer you are,” the attempt was within his range.
“Fifty-one yards is super easy to me. That’s well within my range, and especially with the game on the line I’m very comfortable with making those kicks,” McManus said.
Heading into the bye week, McManus said that he’d like to play another game right away to get back on the right track but he’ll have plenty of time to ensure he’s as confident as always heading into the Broncos next game.
“No one is working harder to perfect everything and make every single kick they make,” McManus said.
