Lammey: Broncos don’t need miracle to beat Chiefs, just a perfect game

Sep 27, 2018, 11:47 AM

No, the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t unbeatable, and the Denver Broncos don’t need a miracle to win on Monday night, says “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey.

On Thursday, Lammey said that quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the high-octane Chiefs offense aren’t infallible and by maintaining pressure the Broncos can get after the quarterback.

“You don’t need to be a miracle worker to beat Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs. It’s gone too far,” Lammey said. “There’s praising your opponent. There’s recognizing that these guys are the hottest team in the NFL and Patrick Mahomes fits perfectly with what Andy Reid is doing.

“There’s all of that, and then there’s going too far”

Through three games, the Chiefs lead the NFL in total points (118), rank 7th in total yards (1,195), and rank third in yards per play (6.8). Mahomes leads the league in touchdown passes (13) while having yet to throw an interception, along with passer rating (137.4).

Lammy cautioned Broncos Country to know that Denver’s “up against it” with Kansas City and “this is the toughest opponent” the team has faced this season. But if Denver can play disciplined, “it’s not going to take a miracle.”

“Now, does it take a perfect game or a near-perfect game? Yes. But what does this include? This includes not beating yourself,” Lammey said. “We’ve seen with the Denver Broncos, with a chance to steal one on the road against Baltimore … they shot themselves in the foot basically.”

Denver, through three games, ranks fourth in the NFL in terms of total penalties (27) and 10th in penalty yardage (215).

Against the Ravens on Sunday, the Broncos had 13 penalties for 120 yards, which head coach Vance Joseph attributed to 20-points off the board during the game.

“You’re playing a tough Baltimore team on the road, and you have 13 penalties for 120 yards, and it really honestly cost us 20 points out there,” Joseph said Sunday. “So, that obviously killed us today.”
